Palayam market, Kozhikode , one of the major fruits and vegetable markets in Malabar is closed for one week as Covid-19 cases were reported in large numbers.
The district collector has ordered the Palayam market, a major commercial center in Kozhikode, to be closed for a week after a Covid test on September 23 reported about 200 Covid-19 positive cases. The market will be closed from September 24 to 30. The public and vendors will not have access. Police were tasked with ensuring that the public did not enter the restricted areas. A Quick Response Team led by Deputy Tehsildar has been deployed on duty in the market.
The vehicles coming to Palayam market with vegetables from other states were directed to be distributed through the agricultural market at Thadampattuthazham. Disinfection will be done before the market opens. After seven days, only those who have no symptoms and are subject to Covid testing will be allowed to trade in the market. All traders and workers must register with the Covid Vigilance Portal. The Collector also suggested that Covid-19 test will be conducted at Palayal market,once in a week.
