A brilliant art of love,life and conflicts
Hungarian movie Aurora Borealis, directed by Marta Meszaros tells a brilliant story of love,life and war.The second day of RIFFK at Kairali theatre on Saturday, attracted good number of film fans. Aurora Borealis develops in a beautiful scene of mother-daughter relationship. And,the old mother , Maria (Mari Torocsik) so cute in appearance and expressions turned into coma,immediately after she received a letter of political rehabilitation from Moscow.
Receiving this news,Olga (Ildiko Toth) rushes to Hungary to meet her octogenarian mother.
Olga is a lawyer by profession in Vietnam. She finds out a hint of hidden family secret that lead to a search for her roots .Whenever she begins to search for answers, her mother, Maria changes topic. Maria wants to conceal the secret in every possible manner.
The film unfolds two timelines: a 1950’s Hungary under occupation by Soviet soldiers and present day.
The narration discloses the fierce face of war and border conflicts,there after.Plights of refugees,cruelty of Soviet military against women and above all unparalleled consequences of human survival;especially a woman’s intense emotional conflicts filled with mixed memories of sweet love,brutal rape and dramatic situations.
Maria has outperformed all young characters in the movie,by simply putting her sublime features of a born actress.This is one of her masterpiece roles.
