Broken,separated palm stitched,restored back
Doctors at Aster MIMS hospital in Kozhikode stitched and joined the broken and seperated palm which was trapped in a copra machine. Santha (58),a native of Iritty ,Kannur district, working at a coconut oil manufacturing unit lost her left palm,after trapping in a copra cutting machine.
Dr.K.S.Krishnakumar,Dr.Ajith Kumar Pathy,Dr.Saji Narayanan,Dr.Bibilash Babu,Dr.Amritha Mandal of Plastic Surgery,Dr.Suresh S Pillai , Dr.Shameem,Dr.Moidu Shameer of Orthopaedics department ,anaesthetist Dr.Kishore K,Dr.Preetha Chandran took part in the surgery.
It took seven hours to complete the surgery. Santha left the hospital after 12 days.Now,the restored palm is 80 percent functional.
After physiotherapy,the palm will function as normal,said the doctors.
Dr. Krishnakumar said it was the timely intervention of Santha’s colleagues and relatives who took the separated palm in an ice bag along with the injured person and reached the hospital within four hours.
