Coinciding with the completion of three decades since its formation, the Chair for Christian Studies and Research (CCSR) under the University of Calicut is all set to move into a sprawling new premises coming up on the vantage spot of 20 cents of land near the seminar complex and men’s hostel of the University. The Chair has been functioning in the building provided by the University near the office of the school of distance education since its inception.
The new building constructed for the chair at a cost of nearly Rs.1.10 crore will be inaugurated on December 5 by K.C. Joseph, Minister for Cultural Affairs at a function to be presided over by P.K. Abdu Rabb, Minister for Education and Pro Chancellor of Calicut University. Dr. K. Mohammed Basheer, Vice-Chancellor, will deliver the keynote address. Mar Andrews Thazhath, Chief Patron of Indian Institute of Christian Studies, who is also the sponsor of the CCSR and Archbishop of Thrissur will be the Chief Guest, who will deliver the benedictory address. Rev. Dr. Varghese Chakkalackal, Bishop of Calicut will release a special issue of Eastern Journal of Dialogue and Culture on the occasion, according to the programme schedule announced by the Chair. The inaugural function will be conducted at the seminar complex.
Msgr. Varghese Thanikakuzhy, Vicar General, Sulthan Bathery, Adv. P.M. Niyas, Dr. V. P. Abdul Hameed, Dr.C.O. Joshy, Syndicate members, Dr.T.A.Abdul Majeed, Registrar and Dr. V.V. Georgekutty, Controller of examinations, Calicut University will offer felicitations at the function. T.J. Martin, Governing Body Member, CCSR and Assistant registrar, Calicut University will propose a vote of thanks.
Mr. Philip Parackal, PRO of the Chair informed that a seminar on the theme “Christian Dialogue with the Public Society, Environment and the Marginalized” will be conducted in the afternoon in the new building after the inaugural function on December 5. Rev. Dr. Paul Chittilappilly, Bishop Emeritus, Thaamarassery will inaugurate the seminar. Dr. Paul Thelakkat and john Paul will present papers on Church’s Dialogue with the public Society and Environment and St.Kuriakose Chavara and the uplift of the marginalized respectively.
Nearly 300 delegates from various parts of the state will be participating in the function, said Mr. Philip parackal.
