Chennai Floods: Mammoootty invites stranded people home, arranges shelter;

In a highly emulative manner rising to occasion in this time of the severest crisis, Malayalam mega superstar Mammootty has come out extending his help to people of Chennai battered by the torrential rains by arranging accommodation at about 20 places in various various parts of Chennai.

In a post in his official Facebook page, which has 2.9 million followers, Mammootty provided elaborate details including a list of names and contact numbers of volunteers, offering his helping hand in the relief and rescue efforts for victims of the unprecedented downpour, the heaviest recorded in a 100 years in Chennai in his own inimitable way. Chennai has been home to Mammootty and family for years.

Mammootty also announced in his post anyone stuck in “Annanagar, Arumbakkam, Aminjikarai, MMDA Colony, Choolaimadu or any other area, are welcome to my house,” and they could be his guest. “Can pick up people from Nungambakkan station, Arumbakkam metro station or Anna arch, No restriction on no as I have lots of mats to sleep, power for essential and enough food” the post added

Many people from Malayalam film fraternity including Mohanlal, Aashiq Abu, Rima Kallingal, and Lijo Jose Pellissery have also offered support for people battered by the rains. Many Tamil actors have also extended their help, some by donating money and some by offering food and shelter. Superstar Rajinikanth donated Rs.10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund while his son-in-law Dhanush contributed Rs.5 lakh. Actors Surya and his brother Karthi donatedRs.25 lakh to CM’s fund. Actor Vishal Krishna Reddy and Raghava Lawrence donated Rs.10 lakh each. Telugu film actors Nandamuri Brothers, NTR and Kalyan Ram, Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja and actor Varun Tej also contributed to the relief fund.
