As usual, the public  show is over. The climax of local body poll passed with energy and excitement. The outcome is unpredictable, say the voters when  the CNM contacted on the last day of public campaigning.Until,5 pm youth of both the left and right fronts spent in the street with drums , slogans and marches. BJP candidates also marked their strong presence at Eranhipalam,Mankavu etc.Vini Raj,a young voter said that there was a change ahead in Calicut.

UDF candidate belongs to Meenchantha C.R.Gireesh Kumar took out a padayathra in the afternoon. Some other candidates  engaged in road show.

Nimisha SP, a PG student ,having no political affiliation said,”We want a change. What is the condition  of our roads, traffic jams, and rough driving. During election times, we hear many offers and promises. If candidates are capable ,politics is secondary.”-she said.

Many of the new generation voters have similar attitude. They prefer talent and capability of candidates than the traditional party politics. Many of them have great dreams for their city.

“We want a city with easy connectivity,high-speed internet, quality and standard education, and job opportunity. Besides all,I want freedom .”-say Rukhiya Set who is an MBA student.

Meanwhile the left  also is confident in the final phase. In the beginning they were struggling to manage their public meetings and other publicity agendas.

After the arrival of V.S.Achuthanandan the left camp became active .

LDF’s mayor candidate V.K.C.Mammad Koya also is confident .With the candidature of this industrialist, many left leaders think the business and industrial community in the city will support the left.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, K.P.C.C president V.M.Sudheeran, Home Minister  Ramesh Chennithala, Congress Working Committee member A.K.Antony addressed public meetings .

BJP leaders also campaigned for their candidates. The party believe that SNDP’s support would help them to canvass large number votes among the Ezhava community.
