As Covid-19 cases rise drastically, an oxygen plant is being set up at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. This is to accomodate the Covid patients who require oxygen support. The 13KL plant from the PK Steel Complex is being relocated to the Medical College compound. This was following the order of the District Collector under the Disaster Management Act. The plant is being relocated by Uralungal Labor Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS),as part of its charity activity.
Kozhikode has one of the highest number of Covid patients in the state. Most of the critically ill patients seek treatment at Kozhikode Medical College.The District Collector issued an urgent order on May 1 due to the inadequacy of the facilities at Kozhikode Medical College to produce the medical oxygen required for them.In the aftermath of this, in view of the urgency of the matter, the ULCCS workers started the work of relocating the plant foregoing the May Day holiday. The operation is being carried out with the technical support of the oxygen plant manufacturers.
Union Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar took to Twitter to congratulate the Uralungal Society for reinstalling the oxygen plant. ULCCS said the work would be completed this week.
