He is the President of the Calicut University Teachers Association (CUTA). During the regime of the last CPI (M) Syndicate, there were attempts to sack Raveendran and some other teachers for alleged political reasons.

The Syndicate took a motivated  stand that his foreign qualifications experience could not be reckoned for his appointment as reason for his ouster. Finally, after relentless strikes and legal battles,  the Governor and the High Court ratified their appointment ending an era of crucification of the teachers for years by the CPM  syndicate.
