National Health Mission (NHM), Kannur and a private hospital in Kozhikkode have responded positively to the call of Railways to set up Emergency Medical Service Booth (EMSB) in Kannur and Kozhikkode Railway Stations. Setting up of Medical Booth was proposed to be provided with the help of hospitals etc. in four stations viz. Shoranur Junction, Kozhikkode, Kannur and Mangaluru Central in the month of July 2017. Interest was evinced by above bodies for Kannur and Kozhikkode.
In Kannur the EMSB will be located near the VIP lounge in the main concourse of the station, while in Kozhikode, it will be on platform No.1 near the escalators.
The booth will have round the clock presence of paramedical staff. The booth will have provision for rendering first aid, life saving medicines and equipment to meet the needs on emergency. Arrangements will also be made to provide the service of physicians according to the situation demands.
The agency will also make use of the service of the Ambulance provided by M/s.Lubnath Sha Memorial Trust, which is stationed opposite to the station in Kannur. In Kozhikkode, service of an ambulance will have to be arranged through normal system.
The passengers and railway staff will be provided with emergency medical assistance from the booth free of cost. The patient will then be shifted to Medical College Hospital/ General Hospital or other Hospitals of their choice.
A Medical Assistance Booth at railway stations is being introduced for the first time in Palakkad Division. Introduction of Ambulance service at Kannur Railway Station with the assistance of M/s.Lubnath Shah Memorial Trust was a preliminary step towards this. This service is found very effective in meeting emergency situations. Station authorities and Railway Police can make use of this facility to assist the needy passengers. Taxi drivers available at the station usually render their services during emergencies. The ambulance provided byM/s Lubnath Sha Trust at Kannur Railway station is in good fettle.The service of the ambulance can be availed through the on duty Station Master.
In the case of Shoranur Junction and Mangaluru Central stations, Railways is looking for suitable partners.
