Foreigners have a hand in beach cleaning

Seaside plastic waste cleaning mission is launched at Azhiyoor beach side in Kozhikode on Sunday. Foreign tourists also took part in the cleaning drive. Five kilometres of off-shore and on-shore cleaning drive was launched as part of health alertness campaign.

R.Tom from Russia,Roman,El-Nora,Elly from Australia, Igno from Netherlands actively participated in the program along with  Dr.Athira, Dr.Amritha, staff Sajeesh of Ayurveda doctors of Green Ayurvedic Hopsital.

The team cleaned beach side from Puzhithala to Kireethode. Local residents also accompanied these voluntary groups.

Foreigners,who  came to Ayurveda treatment accidentally knew about the cleaning drive from newspapers and volunteered for the drive. Fisherman  Priyesh Maliyekkal tangled plastic wastes in his net across 2 kilometres  on-shore. Along with 50 kilograms of fish in each net,13 kilo plastic waste was segregated.

Roughly,100 kilograms of plastic waste has been segregated and sent for recycling at plastic shredding unit.

Panchayath Vice President Reena Rayaroth inaugurated the cleaning mission. Secretary T.Shahul,Health Inspector Molly, Haritha Karma Sena workers also participated.

Second phase of cleaning will take place on May 17.
