Home town accords warm reception to new Calicut VC

Puthur Pallikkal village perched on the western slopes of Malappuram district is jubilant .On last Sunday, the whole village expressed their gratification for one of its sons, Dr. K. Muhammed Basheer, who has been in the forefront of kindling the lights of education for years as a teacher, guide and philosopher.Now,he is the Vice Chancellor of its nearest temple of higher learning, Calicut University

The whole village dressed up at the Puthur Pallikkal AUP School in a festive mood accorded a warm reception to Dr. K. Muhammed Basheer , who assumed office as the new Vice Chancellor of Calicut University very recently. It was home coming for Dr. Basheer in the school, as he had his primary education in this school. Puthur Pallikkal village, located very near to the Calicut University and Calicut international airport gives prominence to education and the village has produced many luminaries, the latest being the appointment of Dr.Basheer as VC of the largest University in the state.

Prior to his new appointment, Dr. Basheer was the Principal of Sullamuslam Arts and Science College at Areekode and Registrar of the Kerala University. Dr. Basheer can also take the credit of Kerala University winning the maiden five crore Chancellor’s award for the best University in the state for 2014-15, as he was the Registrar of Kerala during that period.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, who inaugurated the function, said that there is over politicization in all Universities in the state and the Vice Chancellors should work above all such considerations and function effectively coordinating the staff and all sections of stakeholders of varsity. Such steps will facilitate the all round growth of the University,The success of the VCs lie in coherent and coordinated efforts aimed at achieving efficiency at all levels.

Dr. Basheer, in his address, said that he would continue with his efforts in finding the abilities of the staff and channelizing all their energies and acumen for the benefit of the students and the progress of the University here in Calicut also. K. Muhammedunni Haji MLA presided over the function. Kozhikode Mayor V.K.C. Mammad Koya, Writer P.Surendran and Dr.V.P. Abdul Hammed were among those who offered felicitations.
