IIM KOZHIKODE AWARDS 629 MBA DEGREES AND 7 Ph.Ds

  1. Female students getting higher pay than their male counterparts in this season’s final placements

The  Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) has been a front runner in breaking traditions to path new ways for sustainable innovative pedagogy in higher education in India. IIMK’s 21st annual convocation saw a growth of 10% graduating vis-à-vis last year. Additionally, the total number of female students graduating also soared by 16% compared to 2018.

The event witnessed a whooping success on completion of the academic programme and also saw 629 students getting their MBA degrees and 7 Ph.Ds. The sense of achievement was written all over the faces of the 376 students of the PGP class of 2019 (107 were females), who were awarded MBA and the 253 students of the class of Executive PGP 2019 (40 were females) – 94 from EPGP Kochi and 159 from EPGP Kozhikode.

Congratulating the graduating students, A. Vellayan, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIMK said, “Education is everywhere with superficial variance but quality of education is imparted from the premier Institutes like IIMs, redefines and restructures education itself. The rigour in learning makes the students better citizens and better leaders.” He further added, “Students graduating from this Institute are groomed for being entrepreneurs, agents of change in the dynamic business environment having a customer centric orientation and a global economic, political and cultural mindset.”

True to every word spoken in his maiden speech last year, is evident in the new structural changes that he has brought about in the Institute. He has led the way by setting an example to bridge the gender gap in the board room with the highest representation of women members compared to any IIMs. There are also two new academic programmes scheduled to launch this year. His closing remarks were, “Be a leader who not only excels in work, but also contributes to the society.”

In his speech Chief Guest of the convocation ceremony D. Shivakumar, Group Executive President, Aditya Birla Group spoke about choices one has to make in his life. He said, “The choices we make define us. The genius made it a point to learn from his mistake and thus ensured he never repeated the same mistake. To be self-aware and get good at analyzing the environment.” He further added, “You make 1000 decisions everyday based on the choices placed before you. So, you are making big decisions and small decisions, good decisions and bad decisions, all in one day. Small good decisions have a long term impact and become habits.”

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK in his second term at the Institute known for pioneering initiatives to bring diversity and inclusivity spoke with zest about female students getting higher pay than their male counterparts in this season’s final placements. He added, “This year’s data shows that a total of 107 girls (29%) participated in the final placements with highest CTC of INR 38 lakh and average CTC of around INR 20 lakh. The average CTC for female students in consulting, operations and sales & marketing role was more than the male candidates. The most sought after jobs in coveted Big Three Consultancies offered a 1:1 ratio among students as we wanted the quest for our equity through diversity of thought, talent and multi-dimensional outlook.”

IIMK Gold medals for scholastic performances were awarded to three students in the order of merit to 1. Anchal; 2. Priya Agarwal and 3. Akash Sehra of the PGP batch. The IIMK Gold Medal for all-round performance was awarded to Murali Siva K. of PGP. The IIMK Gold Medal for the Scholastic Performance for EPGP Kozhikode Campus was awarded to Nithin Kumar T.C.V. and IIMK Chairman’s gold medal for meritorious performance for EPGP Kochi Campus was awarded to Nisha K.R.

IIMK continues to train and build world class global Indian thought leaders.
