International Botany seminar has begun at Calicut University.World renowned scientist in botany and International Association for Plant Taxonomy Assistant secretary general Dr.Karol Marthold from Slovakia inaugurated the seminar by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Apart from Kerala and other states of India ,scientists from various parts of the world are being participated in the event. Botany teachers, and researchers are also attending the seminar.
Dr. Marthold said that the classification of plants should be continued.He praised the initiates taken by Indian botanists for their dedicate move to protect plant varieties.
He also informed that an award has been instituted for the best talents in the field of botany by the International Association for Plant Anatomy.
Botanists around the world are trying to protect the greenery in the world.Indian scientists’ contribution in this sector is immense-Dr.Marthold said.
Malayalam University Vice Chancellor K.Jaya Kumar presided over the function.
He said plant classification would help to protect environmental balance and public health.

Britian’s Royal Botanical Garden former director Dr.Dvaid John Marbely,Kottakkal CMPR director Dr.IndiraBalachandran were among the participants in th inaugural session.
Botany department head Dr.John E. Thoppayil welcomed the gathering and organizing committee secretary Prof.M.Sabu expressed vote of thanks.
