Uralungal Labour Contractor’s Co-operative Society and Kerala tourism department will jointly organize an international trade fair at Crafts Village ,Iringal near Vatakara. It is part of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival.
The mela will begin on December 20 and continue until January 5.
Governor Justice (Rtd)P.Sathasivam will inaugurate the expo on Dec 22 at 10 am. Tourism minister A.P.Anil Kumar will preside over the function.
It is the fifth year craft fair is being organized here.
Apart from Kerala artists,around 300 crafts units from 22 states will participate in the fair.
National award winning 50 artisans will participate in the event.
Antiques,traditional crafts,jute products,tribal art materials,sculptures,etc will be exhibited.
Seminars,art and cultural program from various states,road shows etc will attract visitors.
Sargalaya handicraft expo is one of the best expos in South India within a short span of time,said Uralungal Society’s Chief Managing Director Ramesan Paleri in a press meet held at Sragalaya. Sargalaya Chief Executive Officer P.P.Bhaskaran,Senior General Manager GK Rajesh,Laison Officer M.T.Suresh ,Calicut Press Club President Kamal Varadoor were also present the press meet .
“Around 46,000 students visited the village last year.Sargalaya has been nominated for National Responsible Tourism award by the state government.In international market craft sale potential is 8 lakh crore.However,India’s contribution is only 28,000 crore .We have only 3% achievement in global craft business.”-said P.P.Bhasakaran
“We have to promote the fair to support a large number of artisan community who are dedicating their talents in this filed. Many differently abled artisans are working here. A wide opportunity is opened in this sector.”-he said.
At the village there are affordable plans for children. Skill development workshops also being conducted here.
