It is media dominated time-Venkatesh Ramakrishnan

It is the time of media-dominance and at the same time, issue is ethics-opined veteran journalist Venkatesh Ramakrishnan.He was inaugurating the National Media seminar at Aksharam campus in Malayalam University.

Here,media dominance makes no scope for attitudes and creates route  for unethical practices.

One of the  challenges faced by media persons is the absence of ethics.It may increase in ten times more in future than what we experience  today-he opined.

The tech-savvy socio-economic big shots,  control even media content.

If we want to proceed in a democratic manner,our media profession also should strengthen its democratic base.

Vice Chancellor K.Jaya Kumar presided over the function.

He said that the issues faced by media was not economic or technological but ethical.He added that the media was facing similar crisis through out the world.

International capital influence media culture.Freedom of expression and moral ,democratic rights face challenges-he said.

Dr.Sebastian Paul said that Kerala’s media scene was controlled by jewel and textile traders.

“It is our duty to examine and criticize media”-he said.

Jacob George opined that news papers in Kerala were excellent in the world.

Newspapers in Kerala can claim tradition and heritage.-he said.

C.Gouridasan Nair said that media were products of social system.

We are marching in fast pace to media-created democracy.

Veena George ,while speaking in Kerala’s media culture criticized the media policy in recent times which ruins what we earned in the past as reformative media. Currently, media cover programs which entertain superstitions ,for profit-motif.

Anti-women serials are telecasting in extreme manner. At the same time,issues of sidelined communities are  still uncovered.-she said.

Madvana Balakrishna Pillai,C.L.Thomas,M.P.Prasanth,Kamal Varadoor also spoke.
