Kayakers from 11 countries to take part in Malabar River Festival

Kayakers from 11 countries will take part in the Malabar River Festival, known as largest Kayaking festival in Asia, beginning here on July 20.
Foreign kayakers have arrived at Kotrancheri and began their practice.

The four-day competitions would be held in rivers Chalippuzha, Iruvanhipuzha and Meenthullippara in Kodenchery, Thiruvambadi andChakkittapara panchayats respectively, organizers informed today.
Kayakers from New Zealand, Germany, Nepal, Italy, USA and Denmark have started preparation and practicing for the mega event, they said.
They are also imparting training to local people, they said. Rafting in Iruvanhipuzha below water fall of Thusharagiri would be the main attraction of the event offering Rs 5 lakh as prize money.
The participants would be given a warm reception Sports Council Hall in Mananchira in the city on July 19, they said adding the event would be formally inaugurated in July 21.
