Cooperation Minister addressing the public meeting after inaugurating the renovated building complex
Minister for Co-operation, Kadakampally Surendran has said that the proposed Kerala Co-operative bank, an ambitious initiative of the LDF Government, will become a reality soon. The formation of the bank, an apex body of the cooperatives in the state will put an end to the fleecing and exploitation made by the nationalised and scheduled banks on customers under various pretexts, the Minister said. The Kerala Bank will strengthen the cooperative banks and more investment will follow.
“We have to compete with new generation banks in the present scenario of modernization in tune with the technogical advancement, hence we have to provide more facilities for the customers. This will add up to the deposit ratio, which will also boost the cooperative sector and the state’s development” said the Minister.
He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated building complex of the Calicut University Employees Housing Co-operative Society on the University campus today.
The Minister has called upon all the stake holders to make cooperative sector stronger as an alternative to the corporates. The threats from their grip on the banking sector looms large on the country.
The cooperative sector faced large scale threats and competition from 1990s. Kerala stood first among the cooperative arena at the national level, overcoming all challenges, the Minister added.
He has congratulated the director board members and staff of the society for their excellent performance over the years.

He has also lauded the director board for having constructed the renovated building complex with an estimate of Rs.49 lakh against the original estimate of Rs.72 lakh, leaving a surplus of Rs.23 lakh.

on the occasion.
