District Collector and Returning Officer Samba Siva Rao said that all Covid-19 precautions should be taken in the forthcoming local body elections as the pandemic continues to spread.
More vigilance is needed in the campaign activities of the candidates. A maximum of five people, including candidates, are allowed to visit homes at a time as part of the election campaign. Candidates and others should follow the Covid protocol for home visits. A maximum of three vehicles will be allowed for road shows and vehicle rallies. processions, crowds, and kottikkalasaham should be avoided in the Covid context. Public meetings and family gatherings should be conducted only in compliance with the regulations. Prior permission of the police is required to hold public meetings.
Make the most of social media by limiting the number of notices and pamphlets distributed for electioneering. The message that voters should use masks and sanitizers strictly should also be included in the election campaign of candidates and others.
Candidates are not allowed to receive garlands, bouquets, necklaces, shawls or anything else. If any candidate becomes Covid positive or enters the quarantine recommended by the Department of Health, he should immediately withdraw from the campaign and avoid contact with the public. After the test result is negative, further action can be taken only as directed by the Department of Health.
