Kris Gopalakrishnan,co- founder of Infosys Technologies has said the technology is taking new leaps in recent times and it is impossible to predict what would be the future.
“You need to leverage technology and tools to complete these complex tasks; you have to master emerging technologies. You need to love, in fact flourish in solving complex problems that the world still faces. You need to learn to design beautiful and sustainable solutions to solve these complex problems. You need to believe in yourself and that you are on a mission to change the world for better. With the pace and quantum of new knowledge that is being created, you need to commit to life long learning. With tasks becoming complex, you need to commit to working in teams
and take on leadership roles. You need to select the best icons to emulate in your life – leaders that have changed the world.”
A total of 1035 candidates received the degrees in person.
“It is clear that change is applicable in every field of life. But it is clear that driven by these innovations, the world is changing faster and it will continue to change in your life time. Can you drive these changes? Can you take advantage of these disruptions? This is the opportunity in front of each one of you. Quoting the legendary Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars movie “Let the Force be with you.”
He ws delivering the convocation speech at NIT-Calicut.How can you ensure that the Force is on your side? What are the secrets? You need to choose an industry sector that is changing fast to work in. Quoting Steve Jobs “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
“You have to find your wave to ride on. And there are many waves that we can see in the horizon – technologies that are disrupting the world are many today. 3D printing
can disrupt manufacturing and services industries. Autonomous driving can disrupt the transportation and logistics industries. Internet Of Things IoT and gene editing can disrupt the
healthcare industry. New fin tech platforms like Adhaar and UPI are disrupting the financial services industry. And AI/ML can add to the disruption of all these industries.”-said Gopalakrishnan
“Fast forward to today, we live in a world of instant communications to anywhere in the world using our mobile phones and with apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Instagram,
TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. Even email seems old fashioned these days. On TV, we get as many channels and choices we want, throughout day and night. More
and more, we watch the programs on our mobile devices at our convenience – true asynchronous mode, based on our choice. We read books online, again using apps.
Since the choices for knowledge seem almost infinite, we need to learn to sort through the clutter and read what is important and relevant for our betterment. Curation and
advice on what sources to follow and read, what sources are reliable etc. become, very important today and more so, in the future.”
He emphasized on rapidly developing fields of study such as Machine Learning,Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT), and how these are gaining momentum in
industries.Kris concluded his speech by quoting Apple co-founder Steve Jobs:
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
The Director of NIT Calicut, Dr. Shivaji Chakravorti, declared the convocation open and presented the annual report, highlighting the various academic and co-curricular achievements of the students, as well as several successful research activities.
