Mohan’s touch brings ‘life’ to coconut shells
When a coconut shell (Chiratta)reaches to Manmohan (Mohanan) it turns to wonderful piece of art.He has created different forms such as tortoises, crabs,fishes,flowers,pen holders,flower-bases,jars,cups and even trophies and many more…
He used this medium to make beautiful pieces of art during leisure. However,he didn’t want to show his art works to anybody else other than his family circle,in the beginning,
Meanwhile,his niece ,Jisha, a craft teacher accidentally noticed her uncle’s handicraft wonders.She encouraged him to go ahead with his art and she wanted his works to be known to the world.
She took these pieces and showed some people.Appreciation comments and encouraging words poured out upon him, from the people who watched these aesthetic creations.
“I use only coconut shell and Fevicol adhesive “-said Mohanan. He has been working on crafts for the last two years.
Mohanan,hailing from Ponnampadam,Vazahayoor ,Malappuram is working as an office-in-charge of a private firm at Meenchantha in Kozhikode. He said he had no teacher in this field.Everything was his own experiments.During his school days, he used to participate in various arts and cultural events.He got prize for acting,painting,and drama competitions.
His wife,Shylaja is also an artist.She is working on embroidery,and art design . She makes ornaments ,mural paintings,toys ,caparisons for elephants etc.
Mohanan’s daughter Arya,a 10 th standard student is interested in drawing,story writing and poem writing. She won prize in Malayala Manorama’s story contest.
When Mohanan displayed his handicrafts at his office,many people asked him to sell it to them.But,he has not yet sold his creative products.He is planning a big exhibition to showcase his creative talent,thanks to the motivation from his kith and kin.
