Narmatha moves in a different angle
Narmatha Nangai from Thondayad in Kozhikode has a different angle to tell in business.Being a successful entrepreneur in sari and textile ,she and her five member team travel along to organize and find a space and run their business;yes,they are organizing moving exhibitions,at various places in Malabar.
‘We began our exhibition ,here around one year back.Each month we organize one exhibition at different locations.”, Narmatha says from her exhibition stall at Police club in Kozhikode.
The exhibition at the club will continue until April 14.
” We sell eco-friendly cotton saris,ninety percent of our products are cotton.”
For this lady,selling of saris and making money is not the sole aim.She is doing some good cause along with this. Punarjani,a Cancer Crusader Society is associated with Narmatha stall everywhere with the objective of making people aware of cancer.Also,Punarjani provides a space for cancer survivors to join together and sell their handicrafts and novelties.Pamphlets on cancer ,written in simple language distribute from Punarjani counter to the exhibition visitors.
A silent awareness campaign is taking place along with sari sale.
Narmatha gives the space to Punarjani team wherever she organised sari mela.
Vikas and Rosaline are in charge of Punarjani,the cancer survivors’ counter.
Rosaline,an artist and cancer survivor says that those who suffered from cancer need not sit idle.
“They should engage in some creative activity.That’s why we encourage every survivor to do some work interested to them.We provide a support for selling their products,here.”-she says.
Medical oncologist Dr.K.V.Gangadharan is the patron of Punarjani.
Narmatha has organized around fifteen sari exhibitions at various places.
Narmatha says she is planning to organize an exhibition in Thiruvananathapuram,next.
“Till now,we have concentrated in Malabar region alone.”
“We are getting very good response from the public.Most of the exhibition visitors are women and the awareness program would be very helpful for them.”-she says.
Naramatha is collecting quality cotton saris and churidhar clothes from various places in India.
Saris like Beluchari,Jamthani,Kalamkari,Meena printed,Bengal Handloom,Aplic work,Gadval.The price ranges between Rs.100 and 4,000.
Narmatha’s husband Biju is also running a textile business in Kozhikode.They have two children.
