Villagers and family members bid a tearful farewell to M.Sreejith (42), Subedar of Indian Army who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Kashmir, as his mortal remains were consigned to flames at his native place in Chemancheri in Kozhikode district on Saturday morning. The funeral ceremony was performed at his ancestral home with military honors in full compliance with the Covid standards, avoiding public gathering.
Minister of State for Forests and Wildlife AK Saseendran paid tribute on behalf of the State Government.. The minister had also visited Sreejith’s house on Friday evening. K. Muraleedharan MP, Kanathil Jameela MLA, District Collector Samba Sivarao, Panthalayani Block Panchayat President P. Baburaj, Chemancheri Grama Panchayat President Sati Kizhakkayil, Tehsildar CP Mani, Koyilandy C.I. N. Sunil Kumar also visited Sreejith’s house.
Koyilandi Tehsildar and his team took over at Ramanattukara, the district boundary. He was brought home just after midnight. Sreejith was killed in a fierce gun battle with Pakistan sponsored terrorists on Thursday near the Pakistan border in the Sundarbans sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir. Two soldiers, including Sreejith, were martyred.
Sreejith was also involved in the fighting when Indian Parliament was attacked by Pakistan terrorists. He has won 34 medals.
His dears and nears of Pookad could not hold back tears when Sreejith’s body was brought in. His family remembers were hoping to meet him for Onam holidays. Sreejith is the son of Makkad Walson and Shobhana of Thiruvangoor. Wife; Shajina. Children: Atuljith and Thanmaya Lakshmi.
