Poll begins in Kozhikode district

Polling has begun in Kozhikode district at 7 am.

Out of 2987 booths,poll begins in 2339 stations ,sharply.

A total of 25,33,024 voters will go to the polls. This includes 12,08,545 men, 13,24,449 women and 30 transgender people. There are also 1,064 expatriate voters. Voting is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those in the queue at 6 pm will be given a slip and will be allowed to vote. Covid-19 patients   will be allowed to vote only after all the ordinary voters in the queue have cast their ballots at 6 p.m.

There are 2,987 booths in the district. 1,000 sensitive booths, including seven critical booths. There are 915 sensitive booths in Kozhikode district rural area. There are 78 sensitive booths in the city limits and seven critical booths in the Nallalam and Chevayur police station limits. 15 model booths have been set up in compliance with the Green Code. The election process will be completed in compliance with the green code across the district.

A total of 5,985 candidates are seeking re-election. There are 284 SC candidates, 162 SC women candidates and 3 ST candidates in various constituencies. 350 contestants in Kozhikode Corporation. There are 102 candidates contesting for the district panchayat. Of these, 47 are men and 55 are women. While 882 candidates are contesting in seven municipalities, Vadakara has the highest number of 146 contestants – 69 men and 77 women. Ramanattukara has less than 99 contestants – 45 men and 54 women. 557 candidates are contesting from 12 block panchayats while 4,095 are contesting from Gram Panchayats in the district.

A total of 3,274 voting machines were set up for the election. Polling stations were made disability friendly. Voting compartments are set up in such a way as to ensure the privacy of each voter. In addition to government vehicles, 1951 vehicles were equipped for election purposes.

Webcasting will be conducted at 91 sensitive booths in the district. Webcasting monitors all activities from the start of mock polling to the end of polling on polling day. As many as 168 Sectoral Officers have been deployed at one of the 20 booths to deliver the required forms, other materials and machines to the polling stations in case of emergency and to provide replacement machines and mark copies in case of damage.

Polling is in full compliance with Covid standards. Keep a distance of 6 feet in the queue. Mask and sanitizer are mandatory. Only three voters will be allowed in the booth at a time.
