President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday inaugurated the UL Cyber Park at Thondayad in Kozhikode. The president also launched digital empowering program with the Students Police Cadet participation,Compassionate Kerala, an initiative of social welfare department project, and declared Kerala as the first digital state in India,thanks to its advancement in e-literacy and IT enabled service like Akshya.
The cyber park ,launched by the Uralungal Labour Contractor’s Co-operative Society is first of its kind in Malabar.
The president said that Kerala’s progress in social development,e-literacy and women empowerment are commendable and equal to that of developed countries.
“Kerala’s Akshaya project launched in 2002 and data centre launched in 2005 for speeding up e-governance were landmark schemes for the welfare of the society.About,thirty thousand certificates are distributed dailuy by the revenue department .”
“The dynamic technology landscape due to the growth of the internet and smartphone penetration has rapidly transformed Kerala into a knowledge powered economy.Kerala has a mobile density of 95 percent and an internet access covering over sixty percent of the population…-Kerala has emerged a true digital state”-said president Pranab Mukharjee.
The president opined that the state government’s digital literacy program would enable ordinary citizens to effectively use the internet to avail government and private services in a secure manner.Kerala is on a track of digital society by 2020-he said.
The digital literacy program is being implemented with the help of the Student Police Cadets (SPC).
Pranab Mukherjee said the Uralungal Labour Contractor’s Co-operative Society’s contributions for the uplift of economically weaker section was praiseworthy since the humble beginning under the visionary Guru Vagbhadananda Guru.
“The park would help generating knowledge based employment in IT sector.”
Kerala has a long tradition of care and compassion.The Kanivu scheme is yet another initiative in this regard.
Through the Kanivu project ,the government will reach out to the bed ridden people and persons with acute mental disorders who are virtually living in isolation.The government has earmarked Rs.100 crore for this project.
The president commented on Kerala’s progressive views like tolerance,inclusive development and religious harmony.
India’s unity in diversity is well-expressive in its real sense in Kerala- he said.
Governor Justice P.Sathasivam,Chief Minister Oommen Chandy,Industries and IT minister P.K.Kunhalikkutty ,Minister for Social Justice Dr.M.K.Muneer spoke on the occasion.
