Public reception for Valsan Nellikkode

Doyen of consumer movement Valsan Nellikode has been given public reception in Kozhikode

Civic reception accorded to consumer rights leader and social activist Valsan Nellikkode

The Calicut Citizens’ Forum on Friday accorded a warm civic reception to  Valsan Nellikkide, the doyen of consumer movement in Kerala, in recognition of his various contributions in the fields of protection of consumer rights, social activities and literature spanning over half a century.

 Valsan Nellikode, who has also authored 26 books on various subjects varying from Philosophy to plays, has recently bagged the Cultural Initiative Award, instituted by the Calicut University Cultural Initiative (CUCI) for his European travelogue,Ente Priyappetta Germany (My beloved Germany).

A strong leader of consumer movement, he has led many agitations for protecting the rights of consumers across the country and also taken up litigation for their rights.

He has also visited 15 foreign countries including Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Croatia and is now set to embark on his third world tour.

 Babu Parasserry, Kozhikode district Panchayath President inaugurated the public meeting held at Alakapuri to mark the event.

Addressing the gathering, Babu Parasserry lauded the sincere and committed social activities of Valsan Nellikkode and his efforts to clean up the city thoroughfares through the True Mission Initiative founded by him.

The campaign launched by the True Mission Initiative for maintaining five cleanliness modules has drawn widespread applause from all quarters and also attracted much media coverage.

The message rendered and propagated by True Mission, “Don’t spit on Roads” has now become a reality with Calicut Corporation making spitting on public roads with a fine ranging from Rs.200 to Rs. 2000 a punishable offence

Babu Parasserry presented the memento to him and also released the book, “Uparathi” written by Valsan Nellikkode on the occasion. K.K. Indira, Kerala state Consumer Forum General Secretary received the book from  Parasserry.

“Mynagam” the special edition of the news journal highlighting the multifarious activities and achievements of the consumer movement under the leadership of Valsan Nellikkode, brought out to mark the occasion, was released by Dr. Priyadarshan Lal, writer and former Principal of Government Arts and Science College, Calicut. P. Raghunath, former district President of BJP received the copy.

Dr. K. Moidu, Chairman, KMCT Group of educational institutions, presided over the function.

Delivering the presidential address, Dr. Moidu said that Mr. Valsan Nellikkode was a rare personality who devoted his life to the well-being of his fellow human beings and for the welfare of the society. “His talent in diverse fields too is a unique trait,” he said.

Novelist KP Sudheera, freedom fighter P. Vasu, Dr. AK Abdul Khader, Basheer Kundayithode and Anoop Kunnath, General Secretary, Thapasya offered felicitations.

 Valsan Nellikkode, in his acknowledgement to the reception accorded to him, said that he has been doing all his services selflessly for the welfare of the human beings, in spite of all odds and adversities in life. I will continue with the mission of public service” said Mr. Valsan Nellikkode concluding his address.
