Minister for Panchayaths and Social Justice Dr.M.K.Muneer has said Kozhikode S.M.Street would be renovated by giving importance to safety and beautification and make it a model for Indian streets.
For this, the Department of Tourism has sanctioned Rs.2.65 crore. The construction work will begin in July last.
He was addressing a meeting at the Collectorate Conference Hall in connection with the S.M.Street beautification project on Monday.
Power distribution will be maintained through cables, considering the safety of the spot. A special fire engine will be arranged exclusively for this street.
Transportation facility will be developed to give maximum access to the people. Parking lots will be set- up to avoid congestion in this area.
The renovation scheme is suitable to maintain traditional shopping style instead of shopping mall culture-the minister said.
When construction work is going on in one place, the other side would be operational.
