Sports Development Fund soon-minister Thiruvanchoor

Minister for sports  Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan inaugurated 59th state school athletics meet at Olympian Rahman Stadium in Kozhikode on Saturday.

He said that the state government would soon form a Sports Development Fund to safeguard the lives of sports person who contribute to our state and nation.

If approved, the state is ready to host national athletics meet .

He said many yesteryear sports persons were leading miserable life. Many injured sports stars could not even meet their medical expenses.

This is why the idea of sports fund came into consideration.


He said that the government would do all possible measures to encourage talented sports persons in the state.

Minister for Education P.K.Abdu Rabb presided over the inagural function.

He said there would be a golden cup for the winning district like school arts fest trophy.

The work of the trophy has begun.It would be completed soon-he said.

He also announced that all the individual and team event prize money have been hiked .

First prize winners will get Rs.1,500 as cash prize while second prize winners will get Rs.1,250 and third prize winner Rs.1000 from this year.


Individual champions will get 4 gm gold and state meet record holder will get Rs.4,000 and  National record holder will get Rs.10,000 as cash prize.The best school will get Rs.2,20000 and second best school will get 1,65000 and third one will get Rs.1,10000.

The minister also said that all schools will get physical education teachers.

If the number of students are below than 500, two schools will be clubbed and one physical education teachers’ service will be shared.

General Education Department secretary M.S.Jaya IAS welcomed the  gathering

Olympian Dr.P.T.Usha, coach O.M.Nambiar, Mercykkuttan,Kerala Sports Council President Anju Bobby George, Tintu Lukka were among the sports dignitaries present on the occasion.

The joining together of generations; coach O.M.Nambiar his disciple P.T.Usha and her disciple Tintu Lukko was an exciting sight for large number of sports fans who assembled there.

P.T.Usha received the meet’s torch run at the entry of the stadium. Sports Authority of Indias national and international winners handed it to Usha.
