Team Kerala is leading in the 61st National School Athletics Meet.

Kerala has won 69 points so far. Uttar Pradesh is running far behind with 22 points. Kerala’s Anu Mol Thampy won gold in junior girls 3000 meter in the opening day of the event.Twenty one events have been completed out of 95 .Kerala camp is in full confidence and excitement. However,some of the best winning players said that there was not much fighting spirit in some events for competitors were far behind to pose a threat.

The 61st National School Athletic Meet began on 29th January 2016 in Kerala. An enthusiastic and enormous audience has comprised the Olympian Rehman Stadium, Medical College, Calicut. The number of audience is increasing since the opening time and the competition is heating up. The participants are all eager and excited and the complete environment in the stadium is energetic and sporty.

Divya Mohan of Kerala won gold medal in pole vault.Kerala girls are posing big challenge to all other state players.

Kerala players really leaped towards new heights and new speed by breaking many national records.

Sneha of Poovambai HSS broke the record of Maharashtra girl who  broke a national record by reaching top in 400 meter race She is a student of Poovambai Higher Secondary School and a prodigy of Olympian P.T.Usha.She broke the record of Thamke Anjana of Maharashtra (54.77) in 2003.

In the sub junior girls discus throw,Kerala’s Athulya P.A won gold (32.29).

In sub junior boys shot put Uttar Pradesh’s Rudra Narayanan Pandey got first place (16.41).

Abhimanyu V.S belongs to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan    won in the sub junior boy’s (14.18)

Mane Sphurty   of Maharashtra won sub junior girls high jump (1.52)

Saharbana Sidhique of Kerala won in the 350-400 meter senior girls race.(56.73)

Megha Mariam Mathew  of Kerala  won junior girls shot put.(11.92) .

R. Naveen  of Tamil Nadu got first place in senior boys 400 meter race.

A re-union of former team mates after 30 years

C Muralidharan (left), a National champion of relay opened up his views on the 61st National school Athletic Meet. He is the present coach of Karnataka’s Lokesh who is a participant of long jump and is the last national champion.
He met his old time relay partner R Ayyappan Duray who now is coach of Tamil Nadu. They both are very happy to see each other after 30 years.
They participated in 4×4 Relay in 1986 and won gold in it. They both now are training many Malayali aspiring children. Both are now in the same field. They are more than satisfied of the organization and coordination of the meet here in Olympian Rahman stadium.
Mr.C Muralidharan has his own sports Academy in Bangalore. The reunion with old friend . Ayyappan was a great matter of surprise for him.
Both recollected the photo-finishing experience of New Delhi Asian Games in 1986.
