The Left Democratic government in Kerala is facing a tough situation since the illegal land reclamation by its minister Thomas Chandy.Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala raised the issue in Kozhikode today and attacked the left ministry’s attitude as ‘political corruption’. Communist Party of India (Marxist) finds no solution to make its cadres aware of the situation especially at the time of party’s ongoing regional meetings ahead of its party congress.
The same scene is created in the CPI cadre also.
Meanwhile ,one section in the LDF is against the minister. As per the LDF discipline,no tainted leaders are allowed to continue in the government. Here,in the case of Chandy, the district collector has submitted a clear report, stating the minister’s violation of the law.
As per the source reports, the LDF is under pressure from one peer group to save Chandy because he is one of the business tycoons in the ministry and during financial crunch,he used to support both the CPI(M) and other partner organizations in the front.
The minister’s entry in the ministry itself was under cloud when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his annoyance for inducting a business tycoon.
However, the lobby supporting Chandy was always there to influence top leaders and make Chandy’s position safe.
Party workers are asking the leaders why the government is protecting a tainted leader in such a manner and why he is getting many privileges which were not given to EP Jayarajan,a dedicated party leader.
The same issue is being taken by Ramesh Chennithala.
The Kottayam Vigilance Court had ordered a probe into the allegations that Chandy encroached upon government land and built a road on it to a lake resort that he owns.
Thomas Chandy is an NCP minister in charge of transport in Pinarayi Vijayan led LDF government in Kerala.
