Thusharagiri will be converted into one of Kerala’s major adventurous tourism centers, said tourism minister Kadakampalli Surendran. Kerala’s geography is suitable for adventurous tourism, he said while inaugurating the seventh Malabar River Festival at Kotancheri Chalipuzha in Kozhikode.
The youngsters are showing their interest for adventures along with travel and tourism. Rather than the usual places, Kerala’s inland areas and their geographical structure and climate are very suitable for adventurous tourism. He said that program for places like Kotancheri to be discovered and used as adventurous tourism centres shall be undertaken.
More than other Indian States, Kerala can create history in the establishments of such adventurous tourism centers. The increasing number of foreign participants in Kotancheri is the result of not only the association but also the support of the citizens. More than Kayaking, adventurous sports like para-gliding, mountain cycling, and scuba-diving are suitable here.
He also stated that a guideline will be created with the adventurous sports and the suitable placed and promoted as a part of the development of adventurous tourism in Kerala.
He informed that an Adventure Academy will be established in Thiruvananthapuram to give training for the adventurous sports competitions. He congratulated the foreign and domestic participants of the competition. The outline of the upcoming program “Paddling Kozhikode” was handed over to the minister in the ceremony.
MLA George M Thomas, appreciated the Speciality if Kotancheri , The support and love of the people for Kayaking and it’s development each year. He also said that Thusharagiri should be included in the Paddling Kozhikode program and should be established as a tourist destination by the Kayaking Academy.
