A two and half year old boy,Shahul, Unuthali,Chemancheri died while undergoing treatment at Eranhippalam Malabar Hospital in Kozhikode.
Relatives and local people took out a protest march ,alleging the treatment failure on the part of the hospital authorities.
The incident happened on 14 th April.
The action committee and close relatives of the boy said severe neglect on the part of the hospital authorities.
“The boy was not admitted with a serious injury.It was just a scar.
Doctors suggested plastic surgery to remove the wound mark on the boy’s face.
They had to take extreme care when they apply anaesthetic to a small boy.”-said Sathyanathan M,action committee member and local Congress leader.
Meanwhile, a doctor from the Govt. Medical College hospital , Kozhikode who was said to be hired by the private hospital to do the surgery. It was also against the medical ethics.
How can a doctor in government service do tasks for a private hospital?-ask the committee members.
However, when the boy’s condition turned worst immediately after applying anaesthetic,the hired surgeon left the spot and switched off his mobile.
Shahul’s father alleged that the doctor had drunk.
The doctor who gave anaesthetic also brought from outside,said the committee member.
The hospital authorities neglected all medical ethics to be followed while applying anaesthetic injection to a small boy.
Allergy test was not conducted.No ECG and other x-ray tests were done.
Paediatricians service was not made available to the child during the treatment stages.
According to hospital authorities,the boy,Shahul,Unuthali,Chemancheri was admitted to treat his scar on face.
A primary treatment was made at a branch hospital of Malabar at Koyilandy .However, the hospital authorities referred the child to their main branch at Eranhipalam.
While applying anaesthetic for the plastic surgery,the boy suffered cardiac arrest.”
“The post-mortem report says cardiac arrest.”-says Farhan,Manager of the hospital.
The hospital authorities are trying to solve the issue by inviting the kid’s relatives and action committee leaders for a compromise meeting.
The action committee is planning to move legally .A case has been already registered with the Nadkkavu police.
