The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by District Collector S Samba Siva Rao to conduct Covid test for all the people of ward 66 in Kozhikode Corporation. The area was declared a Critical Containment Zone. Deputy Collector E. Anita Kumari was appointed as the Incident Commander of the ward.
The fishing harbor in Vellayil and the roads to the coastal area were closed as the Covid erupted. Those coming from coastal roads should turn off Gandhi Road and Bhatt Road. Do not leave or enter the ward for any reason from Ward 66, the Covid affected area.
Essential services such as the police, fire force and health department have been exempted from this control. The ward was divided into 10 zones. A four-member RRT team is available for each zone to deliver the essential items.
The entire ward is under a complete and strict lock down from today (August 22) as part of the Vellayil Containment Strategy.
Grocery stores and shops selling basic necessities will be opened. Ingredients will be delivered to the home by RRT or volunteers. Police will ensure that strict regulations are followed.
