In view of the allegation of the lukewarm electioneering at the Vattiyoorkavu assembly constituency, Rajan Kurikkal, the chief election agent of UDF candidate Veena S Nair at Vattiyoorkavu assembly constituency in Thiruvananthapuram, told this correspondent that the UDF organisational set up at the constituency didn’t work well due to the role of certain leaders who tried to be the candidates at the constituency.
He also said that he cannot say whether the Congress vote has been leaked to the BJP. “ It is only after conducting an analysis of the voting that we can reach at such an assessment”, he said. This is in the wake of the allegations that the Congress votes may have leaked to the BJP.
He also alleged that the organisational set up of the Congress party at the constituency is very weak. Among the 172 booths at least 40 booths lacks a proper committee. He alleged that electoral debacle of UDF candidate Mohan Kumar at the constituency last time was due to this weak organizational set up and also due to the BJP vote went in favour of the LDF candidate. Moreover, the Covid 19 affected by the UDF leaders also affected the electioneering process, he said. Kurikkal said that the BJP had an organization supremacy in the constituency compared to the UDF. In the Vattiyoorkavu constituency the LDF has 12corporation councillors, the BJP 9 councillors and the UDF three councillors.
The late declaration of the candidate was also one among the reason for drawback in the electioneering, he said. The former KPCC executive committee member’s allegation comes in the wake of the complaint of the selling of posters of the UDF candidate and the Congress constituted an inquiry into the incident. They also ousted the Kuravankonam mandalam treasurer of the Congress for selling the posters. The KPCC has constituted an inquiry and it is only after the inquiry was completed that it will be known how many persons are involved in it.
The allegation of the chief election agent of the UDF candidate is in the context of the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) beginning an inquiry after bundles of unused election posters of party candidate Veena S Nair were found in a scrap shop. Veena contested in the recently held Kerala Assembly elections from the Vattiyoorkavu constituency in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Vattiyoorkavu constituency saw a triangular fight between Veena, VK Prasanth of the CPI(M) and VV Rajesh of the BJP. VK Prasanth is the sitting MLA of the constituency. Venna S Nair is an advocate and television anchor. She is the daughter-in-law of former Uduma MLA P Kunhikkannan.
