Women’s Commission registers Nadapuram triple talaq case
The Commission suo moto registered a case against the youth
Kerala Women’s Commission suomoto registered a case against Nadapuram based Muslim youth,Shameer (35) who allegedly pronounced triple talaq (a form of instant divorce) on her wife, which is illegal in India,today.
The Commission has also asked the district head of police to inquire into the matter and reveal the real issue.
Commission member MS Thara has said that there are similar cases reported in other parts in Kozhikode district and the Commission would look on such matters.
Nadapuram Vanimel native Shameer, working in Qatar had abandoned his 24 year old wife,Fathimath Juveria and two children aged five and two. The Valayam police had registered a case under Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 (which makes instant pronouncement of triple talaq void and illegal ) against Shameer based on the victim’s statement.
A hapless complainant, Juveria unable to go anywhere, staged a sit-in protest in front of Shameer’s house,day and night. She also alleged that her husband’s family had robbed her gold ornaments.
Both the parties filed criminal cases against each other and all these cases are pending in local police stations.
The Commission has registered the case on the basis of media reports.
Local political party leaders visited Juveria and discussed the latest development in the issue.
